How the target-size compressor works
Reduce PDF Size accepts a target file size in kilobytes and works down from a lossless pass towards progressively smaller re-renders until it meets your goal — or hits the smallest achievable size for the document. Text-heavy PDFs will hit tiny targets easily; image-heavy scans may bottom out at a certain point depending on content and desired quality.
Which target should I pick?
- ~50 KB — one-page text-only documents; visible quality loss on scans.
- ~100 KB — small forms, receipts, résumés; workable for email.
- ~180 KB — balanced default: crisp text, readable images, fits under most upload caps.
- ~500 KB+ — multi-page reports with charts; near-original visual quality.
